The long awaited biopic about slain rapper Tupac Shakur is one step closer to becoming a reality.
The film will revolve around the rapper's rise to fame and his murder in Las Vegas in 1996.
"Variety" has confirmed that filmmaker John Singleton will direct and produce that untitled project. He is also slated to rewrite the film's screenplay. With Singleton behind the project, the film could get on its feet by the summer. Before Singleton signed on, Training Day director Antoine Fuqua was expected to head up the film.
Singleton directed Tupac in the 1993 film Poetic Justice, which also starred Janet Jackson and Regina King. Singleton is also known for directing Boyz n the Hood, Baby Boy, Four Brothers and 2 Fast 2 Furious.
